Purpose
To Explore the Separation of Romance and Commitment from Misogynistic Traditions
The Love You Want Exists is a witty romantic comedy about a Black feminist couple’s attempt to plan a patriarchy free commitment ceremony. Written and directed by filmmaker Zanah Thirus, the film delves into the patriarchal history and undertones of weddings. This thought-provoking film aims to explore the societal pressures surrounding marriage and love, and encourages viewers to question the traditional narratives surrounding these concepts.
We provided an array of production design services including art direction, prop styling and set dressing for the film. This involved the staging of a home as well as the design and installation of two different backyard weddings. Since production, The Love You Want Exits has had 8 official film festival selections, was presented in 3 Oscar qualifying festivals, and won 2 awards.
